Tenzing (2026) is a biographical adventure drama directed by Jennifer Peedom, the award-winning filmmaker behind acclaimed Himalayan documentaries such as Sherpa, Mountain, and River. Written by Luke Davies, the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of Lion, the film is an international co-production from Apple Studios and See-Saw Films. It retells one of the most famous achievements in human history: the 1953 first ascent of Mount Everest by Nepalese-Indian Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand climber Edmund Hillary. Viewers searching for tenzing 2026 full movie will find an inspiring true story brought to life in stunning detail.
Newcomer Genden Phuntsok leads the cast as Tenzing Norgay, alongside Tom Hiddleston as Sir Edmund Hillary and Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt, the British expedition leader. Caitríona Balfe appears as expedition secretary Jill Henderson, with Thinley Lhamo as Tenzing’s wife Dawa. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2026, earning positive reviews and winning the Mill Valley Film Festival’s overall audience award, before opening in select theaters on October 9, 2026 and streaming globally on Apple TV from October 16, 2026. Like other powerful historical dramas, tenzing 2026 full movie honors the courage of real-life heroes.
What sets Tenzing apart from earlier tellings of the Everest story is its perspective. Rather than framing the mountain as a prize to be conquered by Western explorers, the film presents it as Chomolungma, the sacred mother goddess revered by the Sherpa people. The story follows Norgay’s fight to be recognized as a full member of the British climbing team rather than merely its servant, exploring the tensions of class, background, and competing ambition that run through the expedition. It is ultimately a portrait of mutual respect between two outsiders, and of a spiritual calling fulfilled high above the world.
